Britain's beer and pub trade is at the heart of our economic and community life. More than just another industry, it is part of our cultural heritage.
It is time to start valuing a unique product and to build a consensus around the simple proposition that the British beer and pub trade matters too much to our community life to be lost.

Pubs are an integral part of Britain's rich culture, our
national heritage, and community life - and beer has always been a
key part of what makes pubs so special.

Mike Benner
Chief Executive, CAMRA

CAMRA are delighted to be a partner in this campaign. People who like a quiet pint at the local pub are being singled out for some of the biggest tax increases ever imposed. Community pubs are at the heart of countless communities across Britain. They are where people meet and socialise, and they promote responsible and sensible drinking. We will be urging our members to get involved in their local pub and actively support this campaign.

Fans already pay enough out over the course of a season without
having to worry about another hike in the price of a pint. Let's
hope the taxman doesn't spoil our World Cup - that's normally the
job of the Germans!

Pubs play a vital role in supporting sport in our communities. They assist countless village teams and clubs across the country, providing them with sponsorship, social space, a local fanbase, support in kind like food, drink and rooms for meetings. Without the support of pubs, there is no doubt that sport would be significantly worse off.

Chair

Well-run pubs really are at the heart of so many local communities. They offer employment and training opportunities, and are so often the places where people choose to socialise, to share stories and information and thereby to strengthen community ties. Licensing authorities want to support the pub industry through difficult times, and to ensure that towns and villages retain professionally run premises, which offer a safe, well regulated and adult environment in which to consume alcohol.

Every village, every town, every community in Britain has a tourism embassy - their pub. The pub is at the heart of the community; a place to champion great local food and drink; a community hub; a job and wealth creator for the local economy. Our overseas visitors from around the world tell us that going to a pub, meeting the locals and getting under the skin of Britain is one of the things that they most look forward to and one of the experiences that they most value and remember when they return home.

Since the days of the coaching inn through to modern times, the Great British pub has been a vibrant part of the hospitality sector for hundreds of years. Pubs are a by-word for relaxation, socializing and conviviality. It's hard to imagine life without them.

Stephen Baker
Chair, National PubWatch

We believe that a strong financially sound pub trade is vitally important if it is to continue to support and innovate in the field of social responsibility. Local Pubwatch schemes and national initiatives such as Challenge 21, Proof of Age Standards Scheme (PASS) and Best Bar None could all be put at risk if the pub trade continues to suffer the affects of economic downturn and over taxation.
Drinkers Alliance

The Drinkers Alliance welcomes Axe the Beer Tax and hopes that politicians will sit up and listen to this message. Just this week we saw the ordinary drinker being punished with higher taxes. The Drinkers Alliance, like Axe the Beer Tax, feels that for too long, we drinkers have been ignored. You can sign our petition calling for the Chancellor to reconsider his decisions on alcohol at: http://www.drinkersalliance.com/recession/"
Maltsters Association of Great Britain
UK Maltsters are proud suppliers to the many brewers of Britain, and strong supporters of the excellent range of British beers available in our pubs today. We believe that the pub as an institution contributes to the fabric of our society, and that it provides a secure, managed, welcoming environment for moderate consumption of alcoholic and other drinks - and a great place to meet and greet friends old and new. The Maltsters' Association of Great Britain wishes to express support for the campaign to Save the Pub.
British Institute of Innkeeping
Despite all the representations our industry has made to the Government via our many channels, the Chancellor continues to throw unreasonable, unsustainable curve balls at us. BII is delighted to give its support to the Axe the Tax campaign as we firmly believe that the pub is and should remain at the heart of every community. This is exactly what the industry needs - a strong, united voice.
Unite the Union

Unite has many thousands of members dependent on a thriving brewing industry for their livelihood and we are happy to campaign alongside supporters of the Axe the Beer Tax campaign to try to persuade the Government that urgent action is essential if we are to stop the decimation of pubs in the UK. The reasons for the current rate of closures are many and complex, but meaningful engagement must start now if we are to protect jobs and stop further closures.
